What is the mud?

The mud is a substance having a very complex chemical composition, formed after an extremely long biological process (peloidogenensis), in the specific conditions of the lake of Techirghiol.

Geographic origin:

Lake Techirghiol has an entire area of almost 98 ha (or 9800 acres). The mud exists as sediment on the bottom of the Lake in a layer about 0.6 m thick.

What does the mud look like?

The mud is black, luscious and unctuous with a very powerful characteristic smell. It has physical and chemical properties that make it extremely useful for treating certain disorders. The mud is unique by all means.
The Mud's Forming Process:
The process of peloidogenesis starts with the degradation of phytoplankton and zooplankton. Algae, protozoa, and crustaceans form phytoplankton and zooplankton (with highest representations of Cladofora algae and the crustacean Artemia Salina). The remains of these species are created through the process named tanatozoocentesis. After this degeneration, they are exposed to long and complex physical and chemical processes, which finalize in the production of the sapropelic mud.
